There are so many fun activities to use to teach about force and motion. I’m so happy that I found this tutorial for spinners from handmadecharlotte.com
This activity is featured in several science kits that are for sell. It is easy and free to make your own spinners for your force and motion unit.
This tutorial provides a pattern, video and great ideas. The spinner size suggested in this tutorial is two to three inches across. I have used spinners many times and that is a good size that works for kids! Kids can manage the string length better on a smaller spinner. For the spinner to work properly there has to be enough clearance to “wind” the spinner. When the spinner is wound properly it is easy to keep it going. I practice along with kids and sometimes I help them get started. Once they figure out how to make the spinner work….they are hooked! Another fun force and motion activity to keep kids interested in science.

You can use recycled cardboard to make these spinners!
