I am constantly looking for ways to integrate technology into my classroom! This is a great set of addition and subtraction games from Math Playground. Children can play this in the classroom or they could play at home. I know the parents of the children in my class love to have ideas that they can use at home. There are monsters, kittens, jet skis and more to help the children with their math facts. The children are asked to enter a name when playing the games. I suggest their first initial with a simple number since they are playing against other players in the games. There isn’t a reason for the kids to use their full names ever in these games. This is a good opportunity to discuss internet safety.
When children can master the addition and subtraction facts they are more confident in all areas of math. This confidence helps them in problem solving, multiplication and division. Computational fluency is as important as fluency in reading. Giving children multiple ways to practice addition and subtraction helps them to develop this fluency.
